Howell Shooting Club - Camp Report
Howell Shooting Club hosted the 9th Annual Clyde Howell NRA Youth Shooting Camp June 2 & 3, 2007 in Yorkville. Held annually the firstweek in June the club hosts 100 campers ages 10-16 and about 140 adult volunteers.

Campers choose from either Shooting sports or Advanced Hunting skills curriculums. To name a few of them, training includes .22 caliber pistol, .22 caliber rifle, 20 gauge shotgun, blackpowder and archery. Hunting skills also includes field exercises, blind setup, tree stand safety, outdoor survival skills. First aid is also taught.

Auroraland Archery Club members Michelle Augustyn, Harvey Stout and Gary Awalt hosted the campers on the Archery Range. The enthusiasm from the campers was thrilling. Each program ran in two hour segments and stamina from these kids was amazing. During lunch hour the range still remained a busy place as we had a non-stop crowd. Although Mother Nature delivered a small storm on Sunday afternoon, everyone dried off and kept on going.

Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Howell for their support of the event. For more information to go to www.howellshootingclub.com/shootingcamp.htm

Also, Thank You to Michelle, Harvey, & Gary for representing ALA at this event.

Canoe Race help needed June 3

ALA has been asked to staff the Starting Line at the June 3 canoe race. This year it is not being run by the Fox Valley Park District and will be from the VFW in Batavia to the YWCA in downtown Aurora. The sponsorship changed and the race shortened to only 6 miles because of the repair work to the bridge in Batavia. Your help is needed beginning at 7 AM. Please call Dale Dobbins at (630) 464-6845 to volunteer.

Interesting archery quote

For any of you (yes, me too) who maybe spend a little too much on archery stuff, I found this quote pretty accurate: ”My biggest fear is that when I'm dead and gone my wife will sell my Archery Equipment for what I told her I paid for it.”
